It is an indication that we are trusting in God for our needs. Giving is an indication that we are grateful for the generosity of God in giving us his Son, Jesus, who gave his life as a ransom for our sins.
It is also an acknowledgement that all we have, all our material possesions and wealth, are not truly ours, but God's. It is His money that he has entrusted to us to spend wisely, and so it is only right that we give a portion of God's money towards gospel ministry at our local church.
Generous giving is a great way to build your trust in God's provision in your life. Your heart goes where your money goes, and giving to Gospel work will only strengthen your commitment and love for ministry.
Giving should be seen as INVESTING. By giving money to the work of God's Kingdom, you are investing in your eternal life, in the kingdom you will one day enjoy with Jesus Christ.
Giving is one of the ways we worship our Lord and God. Along with singing praises, spending time in prayer and fellowship, giving financially also makes up part of our worship.
Giving should be generous: generosity in the Bible is not measured by how much we give, but by how much we have left.
Giving should be sacrificial: giving sacrificially means giving what we can’t afford to give.
Giving should be cheerful: giving cheerfully means giving willingly and not under compulsion.
These principles are clearly set out in the three most important chapters on money in the New Testament: 2 Corinthians 8-9 and 1 Timothy 6.
If you would like to give to the work at Christ Church Howick please bear these principles in mind.
This helps us budget better, as we can can have a more accurate estimation of our expected income. It also allows you to be more consistant and devoted with your giving. Putting a 'pledge' like this in writing can really help change your giving habbits from 'occasional or when it's convenient', and instead make giving into a priority in your life. It will ensure that your finacial commitment and vestment it God's Kingdom is real, steady, and sacrificial.
